Mark Wood was not very good in England before this series. You could have made a pretty good argument that his home wickets were not what he needed.

But by Lord’s, it was obvious England didn’t have a choice. They needed something different other than their military medium militia. And Wood would have played at Lord’s if he was fit.

That’s almost always the problem, Wood would almost always play if he was fit. He rarely is.

If his elbow stayed injured for Leeds, this series would probably be over. Australia could have played exactly as they had, but they win. Mark Wood is the reason this series is going towards England.
