Usman Khawaja, and moving past 37

A fascinating career of ups and downs on and off the field showed that he was always more than just a player - but how long will he stay one?

37. Thirty-seven.

In cricket, that is a start, not a destination. But on January 3, 2011 at the SCG, this was worth celebrating. Australia picked a new player, local boy Usman Khawaja. He came in to bat at No.3, he hit everything square of the wicket, and he made 37 runs.

And it was celebrated like it was 370.

Australian cricket needed a saviour. They were having a crisis of confidence. England were winning their first series in almost 25 years on Australian turf, and this young guy had looked composed, talented, and smart.
